Maine Weekend Getaways
Maine's stunning coastline warrants much more time than just a weekend, however, if you're in a time pinch and need to focus a little, we wholeheartedly recommend the Southern coast of Maine. Just a hour or so's drive north of Boston will put you firmly in the heart of the southern coast of Maine and in towns like Kennebunkport, Old Orchard Beach, Yorks, Wells, and Ogunquit. Each charming. Each unique. Here you'll find stgretches of sandy beaches, backed by rocky cliffs, boardwalks, shopping, historic harbors, delightful bed & breakfasts and of course... lobster dinners for two. If the charm and simplicity of small New England towns gets your heart pounding, head to Maine's Southern Coast on your next romantic weekend getaway in Maine.
Much of Northern and Western Maine is pretty remote terraine. Northwestern Maine gets very cold in winter and remains cool even in the summer months. The handful of small and rustic towns that dot the landscape here are truly unique communities, but accessing them in any seasons other than summer can be nearly imposssible, unless you are a moose. These towns like Moosehead and Allagash are worth a visit and you can find cozy cabin rentals like Grey Goose Camps on the Moose River. This is a great region for a weekend getaway if you like the outdoors and you like it rough. the Eastern areas are more accessible, with more towns and an interstate, making travel easier, but it is still a remote location for a weekend getaway. The area borders New Brunswick is one of Canada's three Maritime Providences. In the colder Winter, Spring, and Autumn months it can be very cold with lots of snow and rain. In the summer months the area is transformed into lush rolling green hills. A beautiful sight for any weekend getaway. You can find fine restaurant and hotels in the communities of Presque Isle, Houlton, Fort Kent and the others listed below.
Secluded Maine weekend travel for two just a short drive away!
If you happen to live in Maine, traveling to a small and secluded
place is easy. Lodging rates in small hidden towns like Moosehead,
Caribou, Augusta or Eastport can be much less expensive. Many of the
smaller towns in Maine offer great little B&B's or cabin
making a quick weekend escape easy and inexpensive. There are always
quaint little shops to explore as well as great home cooking at
local restaurants. Above all, small towns can offer real quiet and
seclusion for a perfect romantic weekend getaway.

A Maine Romantic Weekend Getaway right under your nose?
If you live in or near a Maine major metropolitan area like Greenville,
Madawaska, Portland or Bangor, there are many great deals and weekend
getaway opportunities at your own back door. Off season times are
great opportunities to stay at world class resorts close to home
for much less than you might expect. Many resorts
and spas offer packages designed to entice locals to come and
explore the pampering they offer. Although you aren't going far
from home, the right resort or hotel can make you feel as if you
are another world away.
Maine Weekend Getaway - Jet Away!
Hop a flight to see Mount Katahdin or Wilderness or attend International Seaplane Fly-In in September
or International Snowmobilers Festival Madawaska in February. Just because it's a weekend doesn't mean it won't be
memorable. The important thing to remember when considering far
away romantic travel with only a weekend to spare is to find something
specific you especially want to experience while you're there. Consider
checking out some of the great Maine events like Forest Heritage Days in August or Rock the Valley Music Festival in Madawaska in July.
A weekend is definitely not enough time to explore all of Maine,
but what could be more romantic than hopping a short flight to have
a romantic dinner and see a show on Saturday in Greenville, and then
enjoy brunch Sunday morning and heading home. Maybe a wonderful
Rockwood resort offers a great weekend spa package for two, giving
you just enough time to relax, unwind and connect with one another.
The best thing about weekend getaways is they help give us great
ideas for future travel destinations. Imagine when you're coworkers
ask you "So what did you do this weekend?" you can say
"Well, on Saturday I had lunch... in Greenville."
