Idaho Last Minute Getaways
If you're trying to think of a place to enjoy a last minute getaway and Mother Nature doesn't seem like the ideal travel agent, then Idaho is probably not the best place for you. With more than 50 lakes within an short drive of Couer d'Alene, this place is teaming with outdoor activities including boating, hiking, golfing, jet skiis, parasailing, and horseback riding are just a few of the activities you can easily enjoy here. The easiest way here is to fly into Spokane Washington's Airport (GEG) and head east about 20 miles. Come in winter for some excellent skiing opportunities. The town of Couer d'Alene is quite pretty in it's own right with a lovely downtown and a plenty of opportunites to be pampered. In the East, the nearest notable airport is in Missoula, Montana (MSO) so if you're heading here look for flights into here. To see Eastern portion of Idaho, plan on renting a car. Once here, plan on sleeping in a tent or something like it. People here know how to rough it. Towns are few and far between, and they aren't offering spa treatments and Michelin Star restaurants. It's all about small town. Very small town. But you can find some fine accommodations in Salmon at places like Greyhouse Inn or the Creekside Inn B&B in Challis. If the splendor of the outdoors is what makes your heart pound then this will be paradise when you're looking for a last minute romantic getaway in Southeastern Idaho. If you live outside this area, the best place to fly into is Idaho Falls Regional Airport (IDA) but you'll be flying mostly smaller airlines and smaller planes. Alternatively, Jackson Hole (JAC) Wyoming sees traffic from at least one major airlines including Continental. You'll need to rent a car and fill up your tank to get around between towns like Blackfoot, Dubois, and Preston. Aside from pitching a tent near attractions like Mesa Falls, Lava Hot Springs Pools, or Craters of the Moon National Monument, you can opt for more comfortable accommodations in places like the Black Swan Inn in Pocatello or Lions Gate Manor near Lava Hot Springs.
