How about a jaw-dropping scenic drive on your AZ weekend getaway?
The Apache Trail - Take Route 88 North from Apache Junction in Phoenix's far East Valley towards the Superstition Mountains then alongside beautiful Canyon Lake, through the old western town of Tortilla Flats, down a jagged and meandering stretch of steep canyon road into Fish Creek. Leave those RV's and trailers at home for this drive; it's hairpin turns and steep cliffs will have you wishing you were walking this stretch of roadway. The road then creeps out of the canyon and rises to give views of Apache Lake as it snakes along to your left. In the end you'll arrive at the expansive and dazzling Roosevelt Lake which glistens and reflects the big AZ blue skies.
Monument Valley - Located at the very top of the state along the border with Utah the drive through Monument Valley may take some getting to, but once there, you won't be sorry. The closest AZ town to Monument Valley is Kayenta, You'll want to gas up and maybe grab a sandwich and some bottled water before heading north on Route 163 ito Monumant Valley. This entire area is consumed by the expansive Navajo Reservation which, at 27,000 sq miles, is the country’s largest reservation,

Arizona Weekend Getaway - Jet Away!
Hop a flight to see Verde Canyon Railroad or Bell Rock of Sedona or attend Pine Country Pro Rodeo in June
or Show Low Days Still Cruizin' Car Show in June. Just because it's a weekend doesn't mean it won't be
memorable. The important thing to remember when considering far
away romantic travel with only a weekend to spare is to find something
specific you especially want to experience while you're there. Consider
checking out some of the great Arizona events like Colorado River Bluegrass Festival in February or Arizona Musicfest 2009 in February.
A weekend is definitely not enough time to explore all of Arizona,
but what could be more romantic than hopping a short flight to have
a romantic dinner and see a show on Saturday in Flagstaff, and then
enjoy brunch Sunday morning and heading home. Maybe a wonderful
Sedona resort offers a great weekend spa package for two, giving
you just enough time to relax, unwind and connect with one another.
The best thing about weekend getaways is they help give us great
ideas for future travel destinations. Imagine when you're coworkers
ask you "So what did you do this weekend?" you can say
"Well, on Saturday I had lunch... in Flagstaff."
